Here you will find the answers to many of the questions you may have regarding your upcoming appointment.
1. Where will we shoot your photography session?
Studio: Good environment for professional headshot photos. We can even change backgrounds and make the session feel more formal if you’re doing family portraits.
There are two options here. One is to use your home as the background which may provide a great place to capture memories that extend beyond what ends up in the photographs. The second option is to bring our portable studio lights and/or backdrops to your home. The benefit is that the session will be in a comfortable place and you won’t have to travel anywhere
This is a great option if you want a unique location for your shoot. We have a handful of great outdoor locations on the island (Oahu) we like to use.
2. How large will you want to print your photographs?
It’s important that you know what size photographs you’ll want. Do you want to hang them on the living room wall? If so, that will change how we shoot and edit your session.
3. Do you Photoshop or edit the photographs?
Regardless of the quality or type of camera your photographer is using; your photos will need to be digitally developed. This takes time, effort and talent do to correctly. We develop all our photos with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop on color-corrected iMacs. This means that all the photographs you have us print will look the absolute best they can. Quite often, this process takes one to two times longer than the actual photo shoot.
We do not skimp on this process because it ensures that the photographs we take remain relevant for years to come.
4. Is there a time limit?
Sessions rarely go exactly to plan. Be careful of photographers that will only allow up to a certain time limit. We do not have a time limit on our sessions. We do quote for a specific session time; however if it goes over that quoted hour or two hours, etc – then it’s no worries. The most important thing is that we “get the shot” and you’re happy with our work.
5. We like this photograph…can you shoot like this?
Take a look on the internet. See if you can find some inspiration for what you’re looking for. This will give the photographer an idea of where you’re going – we like to work with images of what you’re thinking just like you like to work with images of what we can produce.
6. Do you provide a CD or DVD of the session?
We can certainly provide you a CD of your session. If all you want is a CD to put the photographs up on Facebook or send out via email then that’s probably your best option.
If you’re looking to print the photographs we’ve just spend hours creating, our recommendation is that you allow us to help you complete the process and provide prints for you. We use a high quality, local print lab. They print on Fuji Color archive quality paper that will last for generations. Purchasing prints from us makes sense:
- We developed the photographs on our color corrected iMacs; this means they will print just like they were shot
- We have a good relationship with a local lab that has produced high quality results for years
- We have a vested interest in making sure you’re happy with your prints. Leave the hassle to us!
7. What should I wear?
It’s up to you. Just remember these photographs will last for as long as you want them to. Our recommendation is to at least wear clothes without logos or distracting patterns. Anything that could catch the eye and move it away from the faces in the picture. If you want to coordinate, that’s up to you. But, we recommend that like tones stay with like tones, in other words; everyone should wear either dark or light tones.
What you wear can dictate where the photographs are taken.
8. What about a meeting?
YES! Of course! Let’s do it. A good portfolio only gives you half an idea of your photographer. Making sure that we mesh well and we are comfortable working together is huge. Having a face to face meeting is really the only way to do that.
We can go over products, what you’ll wear, locations, etc. This is also the time we will sign the contract and collect the deposit.
9. What is the deal with your Money Back Guarantee?

10. Let the session happen.
This is why we don’t put a limit on the time of the session. Pets and children like to have their own agenda. We can handle that. It’s part of the job. If we let the session handle organically then there are more opportunities for candid shots which typically become most favorited shots.
