Great video from Canon Australia on YouTube. It’s about three minutes long and explores how photographers shape the photograph. There is one subject and six photographers. All the photographers are told different things about the subject and that directly impacts how the images turn out. The end result is quite stunning. It six different images could be six different people.
I think this is an interesting look into how the photographer shapes the image, but also why the subject and photographer relationship is so important. If you don’t fit with the photographer, on some level, then the images can show it. I think it’s also important for the photographer to get to know their subject to some degree. Begin to learn a bit about them and understand who they are. You’ll see in the video that does make a difference.
When you hire a professional photographer, you’re not just getting someone who will press the shutter. You’re getting that person’s eye for imagery. You’re getting their emotions. Their talent. Their creativity. Their personality. Their work ethic. Their years of training and experience. Hard to put a value on that. Each photographer is different and each photographer will produce different images.
