Happy 4th of July to you and your family! As summer is now in full swing, now is the time to drink lemonade, grill food, hang out by the water and enjoy the long, warm days.
One of the reasons I love living in the Northwest is our long summer days that make all the outdoor activities we have available enjoyable.
I try to instill in my family the reason why Independence Day is so important to our Nation and not forget those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedoms. No country is perfect, but this country is mine and for that I’m grateful.
The photographs in this post are of my daughter, Isabel. This is her first 4th of July and she’s busy exploring all that summer has to offer. I shot this image with a Nikon D810 in Aperture Mode at ISO 500 with a 200mm prime lens at f/5.6 and an exposure of 1/640th of a sec. The pleasing depth of field affect was created from using a long lens and the widest aperture that this particular lens will shoot sharp photos at. Not all lenses shoot sharply at the widest aperture they will go to. For instance, I can open this old, manual film prime 200mm lens to f/4 but the images usually turn out a bit fuzzy.
Utilizing Aperture Mode allows me to control the aperture and the camera to figure out the shutter speed. If I need to increase the shutter speed, I’ll manipulate the ISO setting.
Enjoy the 4th and stay safe!
